Volunteers

ForeclosureHelp Volunteers are a critical part of the Foreclosure Prevention Task Force* efforts to provide assistance to families impacted by foreclosure. Volunteers will be assisting clients on an appointment basis with intake, packaging and assessment services. This is the first step in the ForeclosureHelp strategy of providing prevention, intervention and family re-stabilization services to homeowners and renters impacted by foreclosure.

Job Description

Job Title: ForeclosureHelp Center Assessment Volunteer

Coordinates with: ForeclosureHelp Center Program Manager and your Agency

Length of Commitment: 4 hours minimum per month for 6 months

Volunteering Dates and Times: Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Foreclosure Prevention and Resource Fairs, as scheduled

Duties:

  • Assist homeowners and renters impacted by foreclosure
  • Complete intake and legal assessment forms
  • Assist client with budget preparation
  • Obtain and package documentation required for review by a HUD-certified counselor, if necessary
  • Assess client's situation and make appropriate referrals to:
    • Lender
    • HUD Counselor
    • Legal Assistance
    • Re-Housing Services
    • Health and Human Services
    • Employment Services
  • If appropriate, contact referral agency for client appointment
  • Work with Program Manager to ensure application is complete and delivered to HUD Counseling agency and/or other referral agencies
  • Adhere to the ForeclosureHelp Professional Volunteer Terms and Conditions
  • It ensure proper documentation of volunteer time, follow check-in protocol

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of real estate lending practices, rules and regulations (federal, State, local)
  • Knowledge of real estate industry rules and regulations
  • Familiarity with the California Foreclosure Process
  • Knowledge of the federal "Making Home Affordability" program
  • Good verbal communications skills
  • Strong listening skills
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of individual budget preparation and budget ratio analysis, including Housing Ratio and Debt-to-Income Ratio

Training:

ForeclosureHelp Volunteer Training is required prior to your initial scheduled volunteer date. Training will be offered and performed by the Foreclosure Prevention Task Force and will include:
