Report Neglected & Vacant Homes

The City of San Jose has a strong interest in the maintenance of the existing housing stock. We cannot afford to lose any housing units to decline and deterioration. The City has various programs designed to encourage proper maintenance and rehabilitation of housing units.

If there is a home or homes in your community that are vacant, appear to have been abandoned and show signs of neglect with overgrown weeds, vandalism, graffiti, or and accumulation trash please contact the City of San José Code Enforcement Department at (408) 277-4528. Properties in violation of the city's Neglected Vacant House and Community Preservation Ordinance face fines of $250, $500 or $1,000 per violation.

Please be prepared to provide the full address of the home, and information regarding how long it has been vacant, or the extent of the neglect, if you can.

You can also visit the San José foreclosure website at www.foreclosurehelpscc.org or you can visit the San José Code Enforcement site at Exit Disclaimer Graphic www.sanjoseca.gov/codeEnforcement for more information.
